Interior design—much like fashion—is an industry where tastes and trends are ever-evolving and constantly changing. I wouldn’t consider myself overly trendy either personally or as a designer, but I’m always taking note of the things that I see in design magazines, in stores, at trade shows, and even on Instagram. One trend that has caught my eye recently is all the fun wavy, scalloped shapes that I’ve noticed on everything from furniture to rugs to lighting and accessories.

It’s hardly a secret that interior designers LOVE a good coffee table book. They can be the perfect styling piece, conversation starter, and personalizing element. Starting a collection can be a bit daunting—especially since coffee table books can be pricey—so I’ve rounded up some of my favorites…

Transitional spaces—ones that have the familiarity of traditional design but with more clean, simplified lines—will forever be my favorite. I also love the restful, calm feeling a neutral color palette can create.

Built-ins and bookcases provide a lot of opportunity for styling in addition to all the storage they provide, but without a styling strategy it’s easy for them to end up looking messy or or like an afterthought.

More than a few things caught my eye during a recent trip to the big blue box store. Rather than Ikea’s usual colorful and quirky style, these items are sophisticated, chic, and oh-so-stylish!

I so often work with clients who are having a hard time getting a project off the ground because of some sort of indecision. Maybe they’re worried about spending money on things they may not like in a few years, maybe they aren’t sure what style fits them best, or maybe they’re trying to blend two different design tastes and don’t quite know how to do that.

A rug can go a long way in making a space feel just right. It can add color and texture, help ground a furniture arrangement, and even help define different areas of a large space.

Just when I thought I couldn’t love Target any more than I already do, they go and collaborate with Studio McGee on a gorgeous line of home furnishings. They might as well just go and take all my money right this very moment!
